Big Idea: Please look down at summary MR 2 1.When you add two integers, how can you decide whether their sum will be positive, negative, or zero?
If the absolute value of the positive number is greater then the absolute value of the negative number then the sum will be positive, if the absolute value of the negative number is greater then the absolute value of the positive number the sum will be negative, but if the absolute value of both the positive number and the negative number then it will be zero.
2.Describe how to add any two integers.
I use the number-line method. So to use the number-line method first you have to draw a number line, then you find your first number on the number line, then wherever on the number-line your first number is you count your second number from your first to the right if it is positive and to the left if it is negative, then where you end up is the answer to your problem.
1.Explain how you can find the opposite of a number. Use the following examples to illustrate your explanations.
To find the opposite of a number is very simple, all you have to do for a positive number is switch the positive number sign to a negative number sign .For a negative number to switch to a positive number you switch the negative sign to a positive sign (negative sign=-, positive sign=+)and if the number is 0 then the opposite of 0 is always 0. Examples:
a.+7=-7
b.0=0
c.-12=+12
Summary
I think that this investigation was mostly about getting to know how to add, subtract and form number sentences with integers and how to add and subtract integers using different methods, then also how to find opposite of integers. So basically getting to know integers a little better.
